A STAR! in Western Maryland AmeriCorps Programs
A STAR! (Appalachian Service Through Action and Resources) in Western Maryland is a Maryland AmeriCorps program. A STAR! provides direct, substantive service programs that improve the literacy of school children, enhance the health care and living conditions of children and elderly people, help at-risk youth by offering after-school programs, improve shelter and support services for low-income families and preserve the environment for the Western Maryland communities.
The A STAR! program is managed through a partnership with Frostburg State University located in Frostburg, Maryland, University of Maryland - Hagerstown, the Maryland Governor's Office of Service and Volunteerism, and the Corporation for National and Community Service. Twenty site partnerships in the four-county region of Western Maryland sponsor AmeriCorps positions.
