Student and Community Involvement staffers are busy preparing for Preview FSU which consists of five 2-day sessions running from June 19-July 2. Preview FSU introduces incoming freshmen to the Frostburg State campus and its activities. Professors and advisors will meet with students to plan and register for Fall classes.
The telephone rings. Judy Abbott, Lane University Center Information Desk Manager greets questions with a smile at the Information Desk. She says the most asked questions is "Can I change my Preview date?" Then, she redirects this question to the the Division of Student Affairs at 301.687.4311 or email Amy Patton at email@example.com.
Marketing and Design has revamped over 130 web pages of Student and Community Involvement's website, involvement.frostburg.edu, with the help of FSU's Web and Mobile applications team Jeremy Spencer-Garlitz, Josh Ray and Stephanie Cesnick to give this millennial generation 24/7 access to information about student employment, experiential learning, volunteer opportunities, events and student organizations within the department.
In addition to the department's online presence, print publications such as the Student and Community Involvement brochure, the A STAR! brochure, the Cultural Events Series brochure, the Greek Life brochure and the ECHOSTARS flyer have all been updated to inform students about our programs.

Lane University Center's Event Management Coordinator Angel Flowers has been reserving rooms for clients and organizing Preview FSU's building details while Multimedia Assistant Mark Miller has been busy reconfiguring rooms to these specifications. Dave Knotts, Technical/Services Coordinator, works with Lane University Center's student staff Eric Martin, Megan Dignan and Lacey Jones to implement the technical needs of the late night program on Day 1 of Preview FSU.
"Based on our experiences from working Preview FSU last year, we know that students enjoyed the fun, late night program including the light show and karaoke that we set up and ran," Lacey Jones, Lane University Center Technical Service manager.
The Office of Civic Engagement is putting last minute touches on powerpoint presentations about the ECHOSTARS learning community. The ECHOSTARS Volunteer Program is a living, learning, and serving experience for students committed to making a change in their communities. As ECHOSTARS members, students will become a part of a growing student service movement by providing volunteer service as youth mentors, companions, and more in Western Maryland.
Students enrolled in the ECHOSTARS volunteer program will be minimum-time AmeriCorps members. Upon completion of the program students will receive a $1,212 education award and a $500 on-campus living stipend for use for the sophomore year. This program is open to all first-year students. There are 65 openings available in the program and enrollment is on a first-come, first served basis. Participants reside in Gray Hall, one of the newly renovated freshman halls. The Office of Student Activities will hold a late night program featuring karaoke, board games and game room activities on all Day 1 sessions of Preview FSU from 9:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. on the lower floor of the Lane University Center. Student Activities plans to teach students how to explore and join recognized student organizations through BobcatConnect at www.frostburg.edu/bobcatconnect. Throughout the Preview FSU experience, both parents and students are encouraged to ask questions and interact. "Preview FSU is a great place to meet other incoming freshmen and talk with Preview Guides about their involvement in student organizations. It's the first place you can meet our Greek students," informs Robert Cooper, Director of Student Activities and Greek Life.
CES staffers are ready to greet students and family at check-in and to assist with the late night program activities.
