The Dr. Harold and Geraldine Delaney Leadership
Award Application


The purpose of The Dr. Harold and Geraldine Delaney Leadership Award is to promote the development of student leaders through participation in co-curricular, curricular and experiential leadership programs at Frostburg State University.

The Dr. Harold and Geraldine Delaney Leadership Award is designed as an undergraduate cocurricular scholarship that will compliment the “theory to practice” model adapted by our FSU leadership program.  The scholarship recipient will serve in a leadership capacity supporting both the Office of Leadership Programs and the Leadership Studies minor program at FSU. 
Examples of experiences available to the Delaney Scholarship recipients include (but are not limited to) the following:

  • Operational and programmatic support to the Alumni Student Leadership Series, the Sloop Institute for Excellence in Leadership and the annual Scholar in Residence Program.
  • Support program research, student recruitment and retention efforts for the academic minor in Leadership Studies.
  • Serve as a Peer Mentor in the classroom with faculty teaching specific course work for the leadership Studies minor (CMST 102 – Human Communication; LEAD 201 – Leadership Theory or LEAD 250 – The Citizen Leader).

Application Process

  • FSU students with a sophomore or junior class status and a min. 2.3 GPA are encouraged to apply. 
  • Please return this application either via email to wmandicott@frostburg.edu or by hard copy to the Lane Center Information Desk, Mon. – Fri. between 8;00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. 
  • Application DUE DATE is 4:00 p.m. Friday, February 29, 2008.  Applicants will be invited to interview and the Selection Committee will make a determination.

 

Ideal candidates for the award will possess the following characteristics:

  • Sophomore or junior status
  • Demonstrated involvement in student life at Frostburg
  • A conceptual understanding of leadership and its role in an organization and community
  • An appreciation and understanding of the importance of volunteer experiences and co-curricular involvement
  • An appreciation of differences and support for inclusive environments
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated presentation and/or facilitation skills
  • Minimum GPA of 2.30

* In the case of equally qualified applicants, preference will be given to those who have declared an academic minor in Leadership Studies.
