NORTH AMERICAN FESTIVAL

This concert showcases heroes of folk music and dance from Mexico, French Canada and the Southern Appalachian region of the United States with a demonstration of our continents Spanish, French and English heritage. Each nationality has evolved folk music with unique singing and percussive dancing styles and traditions of instrumental virtuosity. Dancers feet provide rhythmic patterns that complement the music, taking you on a cultural tour without leaving your seat!

LANE UNIVERSITY CENTER
Participants will encounter three exciting styles of folk dancing.Quebecois is a precise and rapid step dance much like the Irish step dance; Southern Appalachian clogging is a more relaxed and freewheeling dance style with high kicks and jumps; and Veracruzano is a physically aggressive style with metered stomping that creates a powerful percussive drive. Participants will learn the basic steps and perform them to the music.
