Fraternities at Frostburg State
Sigma Alpha Epsilon | Tau Kappa Epsilon
Pi Lambda Phi | Phi Mu Delta
Kappa Delta Rho | Sigma Tau Gamma
Historically, fraternities formed as secret societies with a motto, a ritual, a badge, and principals of high idealism, a bond of friendship and camaraderie, and an urge to share the organization's values. This is still true today. They weren’t located on just one campus but located on many campuses through expansion. The once-secret societies, now called fraternities were formed for social as well as literary purposes and held regular meetings in which members discussed highly charged and controversial subjects such as taxation and freedom. Currently, fraternities are charged with encouraging an inter-fraternal spirit among the members and building leadership skills, service to national and local causes, promote scholarship, and offer other social outlets. As with sororities, national fraternities help students network for potential employment, seek out fellow members from other chapters nationwide, and many great leaders, Presidents, and Fortune 500 Company CEOs are all members of national fraternal organizations.
